Getaway to the mountains

With our second visitors from Switzerland we went for a long weekend to the mountains. First stop was Waynesville, a town located between the Great Smokey and the Blue Ridge Mountains. Our hotel was located there, we visited the Main Street of this little town including general store and some galleries and we ate a perfect BBQ at Haywood Smokehouse.

The next day we went to Cherokee. It’s one of the headquarters from the Cherokee Indians. Their sad story is explaining in the museum of the Cherokee Indian. Really nothing we can be proud of… After a Cheeseburger we started for a two hour tubing trip – cold water, a dangerous creek and a lot of fun.

On our way home to Charlotte we took a part of the Blue Ridge Parkway, a beautiful scenic mountain road, with a stopover at sliding rock, a natural waterfall where you can slide down into a plunge pool below. Very cold, pretty awesome and it isn’t bad, when you have a cushion booty. Lunch we had in Saluda, a cute little railway town.

Now back in the heat of Charlotte with good memories and cool mountain air at the back of one’s mind.
